INCLINATION OF OCCLUSAL PLANE IN RELATION TO VERTICAL FACIAL PATTERNS

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the inclination of occlusal plane in relation to vertical facial patterns in adults.
Lateral cephalograms of 90 patients (44 males, 46 females, 20.3 years in average age) were traced and measured about skeletodental factors including the inclination of occlusal plane.
The angle of SN-MP was used to classify the samples into three groups in terms of vertical patterns - hyperdivergent, average-divergent, hypodivergent groups.
The rt 3asurements were evaluated statistically by¢¥ ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis.

The results were as follows;

1. The occlusal plane was more inclined downward and forward in hyperdivergent group than in hypodivergent group. The occlusal plane was positively correlated to gonial angle, lower gonial angle, SN-MP, anterior facial height, U1-PP, L1-MP, and negatively correlated to ramus height, posterior
facial height, facial height ratio.,
2. The bisected occlusal plane was more significantly correlated to vertical facial patterns than the functional occlusal plane.
